CSU is focusing our 2010 Research Incentive funding to support NETI startups and CSU principal investigators in alignment with the Third Frontier technology clusters to accelerate commercialization in the following four core areas:
Zia Systems a NETI startup received a “Research Challenge Grant” to fund research utilizing “solar chips” with energy harvesting capabilities integrated in their wireless sensor remote location tags for use in commercial applications. Zia is working with principal investigator Dr. Mahmoud Abdallah PH,D. in electrical engineering with the Manufacturing Engineering department of CSU to help design, develop, and integrate a solar chip solution with Zia systems engineers to increase commercial application implementations and accelerate their time to market.
Dayton Hydroelectric LLC a NETI tenant received a “Research Challenge Grant” to fund a newly developed Phase I prototype of the patented hydrokinetic turbine in CSU research hydrology lab to further design, test, and deploy the alternative energy water powered turbine as a resource for regional utility companies in diversifying their energy portfolios in Ohio.
Principal Investigator: Dr. Krishnakumar Nedunuri PH, D. in water resource management received research challenge funding to conduct research in nanotechnology filtration designs and implementations with assistance from CSU student interns. This research could be commercialized to improve water filtration in environmental protection and remediation applications in the future.
Principal Investigator: Dr. Abayomi Ajayi-Majebi PH, D. received a 2010 research challenge grant to develop a series of nuclear engineering courses to supplement CSU engineering course curriculum to train students in nuclear engineering jobs of the future.
Principal Investigator: Workforce Development - Mr. Harold Pearson: lead trainer for the workforce re-training course in Automation & Controls utilizing Integrated Robotics: hands-on lab and course work for re-training or upgrading skills to facilitate educational opportunities for displaced workers. The manufacturing engineering program is and authorized education facility approved by the State of Ohio, and the Department of Labor.
